Yes, technically it could be done. But wouldn't users be surprised and annoyed to see their Country profile field automatically set when they didn't set it? If some users are not setting their Country while they see flags on other users, then it might mean they don't want to share their location?

I understand your point but it's my site and my rules

If it's set accurately once for all users at logon, they can later change it to Tuvalu if they want and using the logic of "if country exists in the profile, don't change it" means that they can pretend to be somewhere else if that's important to them.

People using a VPN with a wrong country would also be covered with that logic, they would get the wrong country assigned and could manually set it if they like.

I would guess the percentage of people that didn't want to expose their location would be tiny on our site.
