Derwin, the readme file contains 3 different styles for the ribbon. Which one are you using? The Style 3 is the one that's used in this forum.

The ribbon is painted over by a frame, if you select a post of the topic starter when using ribbon type 1 or ribbon type 2.

You can simply fix this by adding z-index: 1; in .vmtr-topic-starter > .anchor:before {} to the css_additional.css.
