    Paid Mod Topic AJAX Auto-Update

This vBulletin 5 mod automatically updates open topics with new changes after every specified time without reloading the topic page. This makes the forum more engaging and interactive as new replies and comments are automatically displayed after every few seconds.

The mod is configurable with the below settings:

Name:	topic-ajax-auto-update.png
Views:	2650
Size:	17.2 KB
ID:	12273

NOTE: When a user is editing his existing post or reply or adding a new comment, the auto-update is "paused" to prevent losing what he is typing. After he submits or cancels the post or comment, the auto-update will resume. When adding a new reply, the auto-update is not affected.

If a new post is published, can you immediately quote, flag, or like it without reloading the page?

      Yes you can

Installed, but I only get it to work if I enter channel IDs to be updated. If I leave the field empty, the feature doesn't work.

Not so much a flaw with this mod, but an inconvenience depending on the site content. If you have video or audio embeds in your site that you are watching/listening to a thread where Ajax auto update is enabled. Upon the auto refresh it will stop your video/audio from playing. While I know that you can disable Ajax auto update from certain sections of your site, generally speaking many sites will have video or audio embedded in any and all sections, meaning this feature would be a little moot and would have to be disabled completely or in multiple sections which is not ideal.

glennrocksvb is there a way to stop this from happening at all ?

It's possible with additional coding on both mods.

But what if user paused the video or audio, should the ajax resume auto-updating? What if the user wanted to resume playing the media? Auto-updating the posts will lose the media paused state. But if you disabled ajax auto-updating when a media is paused, it may not be enabled back if user kept the media paused for a long time. What to do in these scenarios?

Personally I would prefer the case scenario whereby the Ajax Auto Update gets disabled when media is being played back or is in a paused state and should only resume once the user has manually refreshed the page or left the page or/and the Auto update would resume once the media had completed playback as well, but not sure what is possible with this feature.

I know there is not a one scenario fits all, but I think the above covers the bases. Even if it were a case that a user had to manually refresh the page in order to resume Ajax Auto update, its a small price to pay in order to keep the update feature live across the whole site and retain the functionality of media embeds.

When you say ''It's possible with additional coding on both mods.", is the other mod you are referring to the mod that keeps the first post on each thread page you visit ? I know we touched on that one before

In any case I think if the Ajax Auto update mod could be updated to be more ''Flexible'', that would be fantastic and would please many. Happy to put something towards it to in order to see it done

                Cheers.

I was referring to the Video/Audio mod and the Ajax Auto Update mod. They have to communicate with each other.
