    Free Mod How to prevent the Default Guest Notice from showing in Google Search Results snippet

    A Google search results snippet is the description or summary part of search result on Google Search.

    Snippets are designed to emphasize and preview the page content that best relates to a user's specific search. So it is vital that your pages would create good snippets to increase click through rate.

    Snippets are primarily created from the page content itself. But for many vBulletin forums the snippet used by Google may show the default guest notice (which is unrelated to the page main content) instead of the meta description of the page or some other related textual content

    If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ by clicking the link above. You may have to register before you can post: click the register link above to proceed. To start viewing messages, select the forum that you want to visit from the selection below.
    This may be because the Notice is at the top of the page content and Google thinks this is the best description of the page.

    To tell Google not to use the Notice as a search results snippet, you need to edit the notice in AdminCP > Notices > Notices Manager and wrap the message inside a <div> tag with data-nosnippet HTML attribute. This change applies to any vBulletin version.

    See example below:
    HTML Code:
    <div data-nosnippet>
        If this is your first visit, be sure to
        check out the <a href="{help_page}" target="_blank"><b>FAQ</b></a> by clicking the
        link above. You may have to <a href="{register_page}" target="_blank"><b>register</b></a>
        before you can post: click the register link above to proceed. To start viewing messages,
        select the forum that you want to visit from the selection below.
    </div>
    If your Notice is already wrapped in a <div> tag, then just add the data-nosnippet attribute to it. Once done, the Google search results for your forum will obviously not be instantly updated. You have to wait until Google has crawled your site. You may also request indexing pages (at least the homepage) from the Google Search Console.

    Google says you can only use this attribute in <div>, <span> and <section> tags. For more details of this attribute, please see this Google documentation.

    You may do this on any Notice and not just the default guest notice if the notice is unrelated to the page content it is on or if it will not be a good Google search result snippet for that page.
