    Prevent Guests from seeing non-image attachments and BB Codes using [code], [php], [html], [quote] and [video] tags

    One way to encourage users to register to your forum is to prevent guests from seeing non-image attachments and BB Codes using [code], [php], [html], [quote] and [video] tags. Similar to how vbulletin.org is doing it but for vB3.

    I'm doing that in this vB5 forum. If you are not logged in or your account is still awaiting email confirmation, you should not be able to see the sample codes and attachment below and instead you should see a login/register callout or some appropriate error message. If you are logged in and a verified user, then try opening this thread in Incognito or Private Browsing mode or in a different browser.

    Code:
    //This code is not visible to guests and users in awaiting email confirmation
    <script>
    alert('Hello world!');
    </script>
    HTML Code:
    <div class="test">This html is not visible to guests and users in awaiting email confirmation</div>
    PHP Code:
    //This code is not visible to guests and users in awaiting email confirmation
    echo 'Hello world!'

    Quote:
    I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.
    Wanna find out how this can be done? Watch out for it! The code will be posted soon.

      Yes that was intended. It is just a sample attachment to show that attachment links are not visible to guests and users awaiting email confirmation.

            What about replies? Have you thought about making it so that a guest can only read the op but not replies? I realize I'm derailing your thread, but after having read about this mod it came to mind. This may be a negative though for Google indexing unless it did not interfere with Google indexing the entire site.

              Is this reply supposed to be for &quot;Prevent Guests from seeing non-image attachments and codes&quot; thread? Anyway, to answer your question, I'm not sure if the benefits of restricting the replies from guests to encourage registration outweighs the benefits of SEO. Maybe blurring out the replies using CSS? That wouldn't prevent computer savvy users from seeing the replies but probably good enough for regular users.

              Sorry to have derailed your thread Glenn. That would be great what you just suggested. It would blur out all additional replies including images. I'm going to look into this!

                  To clarify, when users click a non-image attachment (for example, zip, txt, docx, etc.), it will redirect first to a page and after 10 seconds it will proceed with the downloading of the file? What does the redirect page contain?

                  What about links ? It's important that guests can't see the links ..
