How to add Banner ad to Header

How can I add an image and link to the header for an Ad or sponsor? In the attached image I'm talking about the white rectangle area above the Search button in this pic.

You can use Sitebuilder to add up to two global Ad modules in the header but it will be above the header. To put the ad exactly at the spot you were asking for, you would normally create a Template hook in header_toolbar hook location. But since you moved the Search box to the nav bar using this mod), the ad would be right next to the Search box and it would be hard to move it via CSS.

Your best bet is to just edit the header template and add the ad code there in the desired spot. You would still need CSS to fix the layout and alignment.
