There is a known issue on iOS devices where Smart Quotes or Smart Punctuations (curly single and double quotes, en and em dashes, and ellipses) in posts causes an empty post issue or truncated post issue or garbled text on iOS devices. Smart Quotes are turned on by default on iOS 11.2 and up, so if an iOS user types any of those characters, iOS will automatically convert it into a fancy "smart quote", and when the post is saved and displayed, the post will either be blank or truncated to where the smart quotes were inserted or the smart quotes will display as garbled. Another possible source of having smart quotes is by copying text from Microsoft Word which also auto-corrects regular quotes into smart quotes.
This mod fixes this issue by automatically replacing those characters with straight quotes, one or two dashes, and three separate dot characters while saving the post. Please see screenshot below.
This mod works on the background on the server-side and is transparent to the user. It uses the PHP Hook system which means that this mod will survive upgrades and will never be overwritten by the forum upgrade process.
Compatibility: vBulletin 5 (self-hosted only). Not compatible with vBCloud. I might create a vBCloud version if more vBCloud customers are interested.
