    New Registration Confirmation Email issue

    RESOLVED.

I need some assistance. From what I understand, new registration confirmation emails are supposed to be sent right after a new user has completed the initial registration and sees this notice:

I registered this test user 2:19 PM today. I have not received the confirmation email (I've hidden the email in the image above).

We are getting new users, so the confirmation emails must be going out, and being acknowledged by the users. So are these emails sent out when a Scheduled Task is executed (CRON), or?

What is the process vBulletin uses?

This seems to be a real issue. It looks as if the last fully registered new user was on April 30, 2025. There are currently 19 new registrations in Users Awaiting Email Confirmation, all initiating registration after April 30, 2025.

I need help troubleshooting this and ensuring that the confirmation emails are getting sent.

Just received this from our site owner:
I think Google stopped supporting App Passwords and requires OAUTH 2.0 as of May 1...I reached out on the vBulletin forums for help. Thanks for spotting that!
      From Wayne Luke (vbulletin.com):
vBulletin 5+ supports Oauth logins via Facebook, Google, and X/Twitter out of the box. Google and X are baed on a common OAuth library based on these classes: https://oauth2-client.thephpleague.com/

If this is still true, why are we experiencing this problem?

Is our issue due to not having the Google OAuth Client ID (and(?)) Google OAuth Client Secret data supplied?

          Resolved. From our host/owner:
Should be fixed now. I'm using mailgun free edition to send messages. I even setup SPF, DKIM, and DMARC so gmail and yahoo should accept the messages. I tested sending to my gmail and it works.
I tested it too, using our Contact Us link. Received the email. Kicked off Activation Reminder Email so those in Users Awaiting Email Confirmation get (or should get) their activation email ’now’. That is also working again; I received my activation email.

So we have working email for our Forum again.

Glad the issue is fixed. Sorry if I wasn't able to look into the issue. Been busy at work lately.

No problem. Do you know if it is true, that versions of vBulletin prior to version 6 don't support OAUTH that Google is now requiring?

Yes but it's related to Sign in with Google functionality where you can sign in to vB using your Google account. This is unrelated to your email issue.

So vBulletin 5.7.5 and earlier can no longer use Google for managing outgoing email as of 1 May 2025?

It looks like that is the case.

              For the first question:

              Control Panel Home
Admin CP → Help User Moderation Options → Aggressive Email Banning → Aggressive Email Banning [NO]

              as for the second question:

Why not use the services of websites that offer SMPT free email? There are many. Some give you 100 emails per day, and others allow you to send 3,000 messages per month, whether you send them in one day or throughout the month.
