Use "Topic" view in the Search Module. I think you're using the "Default" view.

After looking at things further, If I remove the jason, I can go back and set it for "topic" view. I then added back jason and saved. Same thing occurs, no descending / ascending option. If I click the "view all" button on that page it does switch to being able to descend / ascend. How can I make that the default view? I do lose the “mark all post read” option in this view. Since only one user asked for it I can tell him to push the “view all” button

Add "view": "topic" to the JSON.
If you insert it at the beginning:
If you insert it at the end:Code:{"view":"topic",
Code:,"view":"topic"}
