Header 'banner' image: Random, rotating, or even user-focused?

Can I modify my vBulletin 5.4.5 site to be able to deliver different header area banner images - random, or weighted random, or sequential, or something? I am currently using a full-width header image, via Glenn's mod.

Ideally I'd like it to recognize the user and show a header image more likely to engage that user ... perhaps based on a custom user field. So, for example, if I know they're an airline operator they're more likely to get the A380 header when they arrive at the forum site than the Su57 or the MQ9 header.
But to start with I'd be happy for it to simply choose between a number of images, perhaps with a little logic thrown in to count how many images are available (rather than hardwiring their filenames in) and apply a weighted random choice to them.

I've done some searching and see the random-header-banner issue approached in different ways, and some debate about how to go about it. Looking at Glenn's little flying-in-from-the-left header image I'm reasoning that the general idea is viable.

Is this a hard thing to do? Is there a mod, or somebody's example code, out there that does what I'm seeking? Is it likely achievable in CSS-only or would other components need to be modified?

I'll check if this is possible.
