Changing host, what to do with file system attachments?

I have a site that is changing to a different host. They store the attachments in the file system. I have uploaded the directory they are currently in to the new host, but will need to change the file directory as some of the names in the directory string are different with the new host.
I see 2 options in the admincp.

1. Move Items from File System into Database
2. Move Items to a Different Directory

While I do not want to move them perse, I just want to change the link to the location they will be in.

What is the best way to go about doing this?

Before transferring host, move the file attachments to database. Then after transfer, move them back to file system.

In between, test to make sure the attachments still work.
