Easy way to show a topic has been seen previously

My forum is a resource for sweepstakes and giveaways. Each topic has a lot of content in the first post. The members use custom reactions (green tick / red cross) to show if they have entered that particular sweepstakes, or are not interested in it.

As a new reply in a topic will make that topic turn bold and appear in the VIEW NEW POSTS list again, members are finding it frustrating as they think it's a new topic, then they open it and scroll past all the sweepstakes information (there can be quite a lot of text/rules/terms and conditions) to see they have already reacted with a green tick and entered that particular sweepstakes.

    They have requested:
    • If a member has already reacted to a post, is it possible to show their reaction on the main sub-forum topic list? (similar to the paperclip that shows there is an attachment, there could be a column to the left of this showing their reaction to the initial topic post, a column of green ticks to show which ones they have entered)
    • Or is it possible to show the 'add reaction' button at the top of a post?
    • Or is there a way to add the long 'terms and conditions' text to the original post as a hidden (spoiler) section, that they could expand if necessary?
I realise our forum is a niche topic and we're using reactions in a different way to others, but I said I would put these forward as suggestions.

Or maybe there is another solution to show members which topics (sweeps) they have 'entered' and therefore don't want to read that topic again?

    Thanks for any advice

The quickest and most feasible solution is to use spoiler as you mentioned in the 3rd bullet point.

Do you want your forum users to easily post spoiler alerts? Go to AdminCP > Custom BB Codes > Add New BB Code and enter the following information: Title:

Another way is to make a new BBCode that wraps the long text in an element that has a max height and will have vertical scrollbars.

This will be the replacement code for the new BBCode:
      Code:
      <div style="max-height: 100px; overflow: auto; border: 1px solid #ccc; padding: 5px;">{param}</div>

Awesome! Glad to hear the Spoiler BBCode works perfectly to resolve this.
