    How to restore

Fortunately I have never had to restore a site from an update, back to the previous version. So my question is, what is the best method of procedure for doing this?

Did you backup the database prior to upgrade?

Just restore the backup to the db server.

I always do it on the command line, unless it's a really tiny forum and then I just import it using whatever web tool the client can give me, or adminer if they don't know what that even means, or can't provide one.

I understand that part. What about the new script files sitting in the html directory? Do I reinstall the previous version and run the install script?

Yes. It would be nice to also back up the source files before upgrading to be able to restore them quickly. I always do that whenever I upgrade.

So copy all those files to a _backup directory. Then if it goes bad I could delete the new files in the html directory and move the backup files back to it (after restoring the db)?
