It's using the primary_module_subheader_background stylevar. But if you modify it, it will affect other elements as it's being incorrectly re-used for different unrelated elements.
So the solution is to add a custom css in css_additional template in AdminCP or via CSS Editor in Sitebuilder.

Change the color accordingly. Or you may also use background image.

in fact it is true what you say, I tried to change the color of the background but it changes it in more parts of the forum and not only on the sides of the home page.
