integration of SMS \ messaging

Lets face it... the VB platform is based on email notifications... but what if we can do this Glenn? integrate SMS \ push notifications into a forum of new posts or topics that you have subscribed too?

So what if on the sign up.. we get mobil number... send sms code to verify. Then integrate some of this code base into VB as a module. and bam. now people get push notifications instead of email or both?

Who is not attached to mobile at this point... and what better way to get people back to your site.

I concur. That would be a great thing to have. I presently use an embedded script, but it is not vB compatible in integrating those messages.

Another SMS method I've been toying around with uses a combination of virtual SMS and RSS.

Set up a virtual SMS phone number. One such service is https://www.freeonlinephone.org
Make sure that whoever you select, they allow for displaying the SMS messages on their website.

Next, use an HTML to RSS feed conversion service, such as https://feed43.com
Create your filter and obtain your RSS link.

On your forum, create a sub-forum and a user account.
Go to your RSS manager and add the RSS link, post to new sub-forum, under new user.
Now, any time someone sends a text (SMS) to your virtual phone number, it will be converted into an RSS and posted to your forum as a new message.
If subscribed, you can also get a notice via email.

Cons to this approach are you can not directly reply to messages and the potential for spamming is high unless you purchase a private virtual phone number.
