    New User Post

    Hi everyone:

I stumbled across this site after googling to find some info on how to administer a vbulletin5 site. I run a small site on which some 20-30 people converse daily (beats working, I guess). We recently updated to vB5, which broke a lot of the site, and the guy who had previous taken the role of admin decided it was too much work and he was done. I got nominated.

I know literally nothing about administering a vBulletin site (it took me several days to find the AdminCP...I'm not kidding), but I've made a reasonable dent in fixing the problems and I'm getting familiar.

Anyway, that's my "mandatory starter post." See y'all around here...

For the record, the thing I came here for (vB embed code for twitter) worked like a charm.

    Pete (thanks y'all)

Does this site have (or does anyone here know where I can find) a "chatbox" application for a VB5.4.4 site? On VB4 we had a realtime chat window at the top of the site where the guys would just type in realtime (like an instant messenger only everyone would chat in the same window). Chat lines would expire after 24 hours.

We'd love to recreate that but have no idea how. Any tips?

Pete (hopes you guys know something)

Can you just use the built-in vBMessenger?

First off...how do I do that?

Second... as I understand that, that program opens a chat between two or more users on demand. The chatbox we used to have was persistent (at the top of the site) and visible to all registered users at all times, with no need to initiate it.

                Does VBmessenger do that?

Pete (is sorry if he's asking noob questions)

I think you're looking for a "shoutbox" and not a regular chat where it needs to be initiated between users. Try googling for it.
