One way to encourage users to register to your forum is to prevent guests from seeing non-image attachments and BB Codes using [code], [php], [html], [quote] and [video] tags. Similar to how vbulletin.org is doing it but for vB3.
I'm doing that in this vB5 forum. If you are not logged in or your account is still awaiting email confirmation, you should not be able to see the sample codes and attachment below and instead you should see a login/register callout or some appropriate error message. If you are logged in and a verified user, then try opening this thread in Incognito or Private Browsing mode or in a different browser.

Wanna find out how this can be done? Watch out for it! The code will be posted soon.

Code:
//This code is not visible to guests and users in awaiting email confirmation <script> alert('Hello world!'); </script>
HTML Code:
<div class="test">This html is not visible to guests and users in awaiting email confirmation</div>
PHP Code:

echo 'Hello world!';
